  • MikroTik EoIP Tunnel for Bridging LANs over the Internet

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a technology that provides a secure tunnel across a public network. A private network user can send and receive data to any remote private network using VPN Tunnel as if his/her network device was directly connected to that private network. MikroTik provides EoIP (Ethernet over IP) that is used to create a site to site VPN tunnel. EoIP tunneling is a MikroTik RouterOS protocol that creates an Ethernet tunnel between two MikroTik Routers on top of an IP connection. So, EoIP Tunnel can be used to communicate with remote LANs across public network using static routing configuration. EoIP Tunnel can also be used to bridge LANs over the Internet that means LAN IP can be assigned to a remote area network using EOIP Tunnel. The goal of this article is to design an EoIP VPN tunnel that will be used to bridge LANs over the internet. So, in this article I will show how to create an EoIP VPN tunnel between two MikroTik Routers and how to use this VPN tunnel to bridge LANs for keeping in the same layer2 broadcast domain over the internet. Network Diagram To configure a site to site EoIP VPN [...]

MikroTik Load Balancing with 2 PPPoE and 1 Static WAN using ECMP |   September 24, 2019

ECMP provides almost 100% reliable load balancing and link redundancy solution. ECMP is a per connection load balancing where connection is marked with source and destination IP pair. In my previous article I discussed how to configure DUAL WAN load balancing with failover using ECMP method where WAN connections were static IP Addresses. But some ISP companies use PPPoE service for their client connection. So, some network administrators become confused to configure load balancing with PPPoE WAN connection because PPPoE [...]

How to Create Free SSL/TLS Certificate with OpenSSL |   July 23, 2021

SSL/TLS certificate is required to encrypt data sent over internet communication. Without encryption, the sent data can be hacked by the middle man attack. SSL/TLS certificate is usually a pair key, public key and private key, solution where data is encrypted with public key and decrypted with private key. In public communication, public key is required to be signed by a CA (certificate authority) but in private communication, there is no need to be signed by any CA. If we [...]

How to Separate MikroTik Hotspot and DHCP IP Pool |   October 9, 2020

MikroTik default Hotspot Setup comes with a DHCP Server (which uses same IP Pool of Hotspot Server) to provide IP address and other network information to a connected device. Using this automatic IP address connected device can access Hotspot login page. After successfully login, a one to one NAT IP address is also assigned for the device and this process happens internally in Hotspot Server. User device cannot know this one to one NAT IP assigning. However, Hotspot Server actually [...]

MikroTik SSTP VPN Server Configuration with Windows 10 |   April 27, 2020

VPN (Virtual Private Network) technology provides a secure and encrypted tunnel across a public network. So, a private network user can send and receive data to any remote private network through VPN tunnel as if his/her network device was directly connected to that private network. Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP) transports PPP tunnel over TLS channel. SSTP uses TLS channel over TCP port 443. So, SSTP VPN can virtually pass through all firewalls and proxy servers. Because of using TLS [...]
