  • MikroTik EoIP Tunnel for Bridging LANs over the Internet

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a technology that provides a secure tunnel across a public network. A private network user can send and receive data to any remote private network using VPN Tunnel as if his/her network device was directly connected to that private network. MikroTik provides EoIP (Ethernet over IP) that is used to create a site to site VPN tunnel. EoIP tunneling is a MikroTik RouterOS protocol that creates an Ethernet tunnel between two MikroTik Routers on top of an IP connection. So, EoIP Tunnel can be used to communicate with remote LANs across public network using static routing configuration. EoIP Tunnel can also be used to bridge LANs over the Internet that means LAN IP can be assigned to a remote area network using EOIP Tunnel. The goal of this article is to design an EoIP VPN tunnel that will be used to bridge LANs over the internet. So, in this article I will show how to create an EoIP VPN tunnel between two MikroTik Routers and how to use this VPN tunnel to bridge LANs for keeping in the same layer2 broadcast domain over the internet. MikroTik Blocking Websites with TLS Host Firewall Matcher |   April 29, 2019

Most of the websites now use https and blocking https websites is so much harder with the MikroTik RouterOS version less than 6.41. But from RouterOS v6.41, MikroTik Firewall introduces a new property named TLS Host that is capable to match https websites so easily. So, blocking https websites like Facebook, YouTube etc. can be easily done with MikroTik Router if RouterOS version is greater than 6.41. In my previous article, I discussed how to block websites with MikroTik Router [...]

MikroTik VLAN and Bridge Configuration |   September 19, 2017

VLAN and Bridge are two useful features in MikroTik Router.  These two features are frequently used in any MikroTik network configuration. VLAN divides a physical interface into multiple logical interfaces. So, you can isolate your network into multiple logical networks on a physical interface. On other hand, MikroTik Bridge integrates multiple physical interfaces in a logical interface. So, you can extend your broadcast domain on multiple physical interfaces and can extend your popular services such as PPPoE or DHCP on [...]

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is one of the most popular services in MikroTik RouterOS. A lot of VPN services (IPsec, EoIP, OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, IPIP etc.) are available in MikroTik RouterOS but in RouterOS7, a new VPN service named WireGuard has been introduced which is extremely simple yet first, secure and modern VPN. WireGuard uses cryptography to make it secure. In RouterOS7, WireGuard can be used either Client-Server (Road Warrior) VPN tunnel or site to site VPN tunnel. Using Client-Server [...]

MikroTik OpenVPN Configuration on TCP Port 443 with Windows OS |   April 6, 2020

MikroTik OpenVPN is an amazing VPN solution. IT provides a secure and encrypted VPN tunnel across public network. Unlike PPTP and L2TP VPN Services which are poorly designed and can easily be blocked, OpenVPN can highly be customized and even can be run on so popular TCP Port 443. So, OpenVPN cannot easily be blocked. OpenVPN uses SSL/TLS Certificates. So, OpenVPN Tunnel is a trusted tunnel to send and receive data across public network. OpenVPN is a site to site [...]

DNS Server Configuration on CentOS 7 (Caching DNS with BIND) |   June 24, 2019

DNS (Domain Name System) Server is an essential part to any computer network. Today web communication cannot imagine without DNS Server. DNS is a client server protocol where DNS Client requests for the domain name resolution and DNS Server response on it. Every network should have a DNS Server because local DNS Server improves network performance by caching DNS information and serving DNS request locally. DNS Server can be configured either Windows or Linux operating system. In this article, I [...]
